Novacap: investing in people to create lasting impact
At Novacap, long-term success depends as much on people as it does on performance. The firm believes that when women entrepreneurs have access to the right tools, guidance and support, they are better equipped to unlock their potential, build successful businesses and inspire others along the way.
Novacap’s first involvement in the IMPACT Initiative in 2025 fostered meaningful connections and valuable exchanges, enriching the experience of both the Let’s Start Up Pathway participant and the team members who volunteered as mentors. The experience also brought colleagues together around a shared purpose, offering them an opportunity to contribute their time and expertise to a cause that makes a difference. This commitment aligns with the work of Women of Novacap, an initiative that promotes connections, professional development, leadership and greater visibility for women.
The IMPACT Initiative reflects Novacap’s culture, where knowledge sharing and collaboration are central. Inspired by the experience of its inaugural participation, the firm has chosen to renew its commitment and support Érika Laverdière, a Let’s Start Up Pathway graduate.
“At Novacap, we believe that creating lasting value starts with investing in people. By renewing our partnership with the Lise Watier Foundation, we are putting our expertise, time and experience to work to support women entrepreneurs as they build lasting financial independence. We believe the most enduring impact comes from sharing knowledge, working together and investing in people’s potential.”

Érika Laverdière: A life’s mission rooted in nature
Originally from Montreal’s North Shore, Érika grew up in an environment where nature and animals played a central role, nurturing her deep connection to both. After spending ten years working as a respiratory therapist, she embraced entrepreneurship and launched ComportementCanin.ca, which she has successfully run since 2017. Over time, however, the isolation of running a business began to weigh on her, leading her to question herself and her direction. She came to realize that realigning her professional path with her values would help her regain confidence and define a clearer vision for the future.
The Let’s Start Up Pathway became a turning point. Through the program, Érika discovered her calling: to create a welcoming, supportive and nature-based community that reflects her values. This vision became the inspiration for Chalet EcoRefuge, her next professional venture.
“My journey reflects a constant desire to help others, care for them and make a positive impact. My Chalet EcoRefuge project is a natural extension of that commitment and the culmination of my life’s mission.”

A nature-based retreat where animal well-being meets sustainable tourism
Érika is working to acquire a small nature-based lodging property that she plans to transform into Chalet EcoRefuge. The project will cater to guests seeking an immersive experience in nature, combining eco-friendly accommodations with a strong commitment to animal well-being. This distinctive concept sets Chalet EcoRefuge apart from traditional tourism offerings and brings to life the values Érika is passionate about. Her ambition is to build a thriving, innovative business that creates lasting benefits both the local community and the environment.
How Novacap is helping bring Chalet EcoRefuge to life
The IMPACT Grant will enable Érika to pursue the Certificate in Tourism Management, offered entirely online by Université TÉLUQ. This specialized training will strengthen Érika’s will equip her with the knowledge and skills to structure, professionalize and build a profitable business through the acquisition of an existing sustainable tourism operation, strengthening her path toward financial independence.
Through mentoring with Novacap, Érika will have the opportunity to validate her strategic decisions, expand her professional network across the finance, operations and technology sectors, refine her business plan and build confidence as she navigates the complexities of acquiring and growing a sustainable tourism business. This personalized support will be a valuable catalyst in turning Chalet EcoRefuge into a thriving, sustainable business.
