YWCA Quebec $500,000 to rebuild hope

The Lise Watier Foundation donates $500,000 to the YWCA Quebec’s « Rebâtir l’espoir » fundraising campaign and confirms its mission to support and help women and girls in need.

Quebec City, May 12, 2014 – Lise Watier has long made the cause of women in need her own. A true emblem of feminine success, the grande dame of beauty decides to put her shoulder to the wheel once again with a $500,000 donation. Through the foundation that bears her name, Lise Watier wishes to help the YWCA Quebec and its most ambitious fundraising campaign to date, « Rebâtir l’espoir », which aims to raise $1.5 million.

Lise Watier’s generosity will allow the Old Capital institution, which has been helping women from all walks of life for nearly 140 years, to support two important aspects of its activities: the Étinc’elle back-to-work program and the YWCA Girls’ Centre, which serves girls aged 9 to 17. « Rebâtir l’espoir » also aims to raise funds for the construction of a new socio-community pavilion to house and support women in difficulty and another dedicated to sports and recreation. These new projects will require an overall investment of $18 million.

A future Lise Watier Pavilion

As a tribute to the exceptional gift of an equally exceptional businesswoman, the YWCA Quebec has chosen to name the future socio-community pavilion after Lise Watier, who says she is honoured by this tribute, but above all happy to be able to act concretely for the women of Quebec. “I have dedicated my life to making women’s lives more beautiful. Before allowing them to advance, we must allow them to live, or even survive, and to gain autonomy and self-esteem,” says the donor. I am particularly proud to give the YWCA Quebec a new impetus and to sow hope for a better tomorrow for all these women who need it today.”
