The Story of Catherine

The quiet strength behind Aléa Café

Catherine

A woman, a mother, a passionate entrepreneur

Originally from Saint-Ferdinand, Catherine Côté has always had a deep love for coffee and customer service. With over 17 years of experience as an early childhood educator and as a mother of three children, one of whom has special needs, she developed a unique sensitivity to the realities faced by families, especially those navigating neurodivergence.

Her dream of opening a coffee shop matured over the years into a meaningful professional project: to create a warm and inclusive space where children are welcome and parents can finally enjoy a hot coffee in peace. Upon moving to Plessisville, she met Nathalie, who would become her business partner. Together, they brought Aléa Café to life, an innovative community hub designed for families and focused on inclusion.

The Let’s Start Up Pathway: a decisive steppingstone

In 2023, Catherine’s life was turned upside down by two cancer diagnoses. During her medical leave, she discovered the Lise Watier Foundation and the Let’s Start Up Pathway. The Foundation’s programs became a true catalyst for her entrepreneurial journey.

Thanks to the Foundation, Catherine validated the viability of her idea, uncovered her entrepreneurial strengths through the SuccessFinder assessment, learned how to structure her business plan, seek funding, and build a network of inspiring women. She regained the momentum needed to turn her vision into a business.

The Foundation was the light that illuminated my path. It gave me the tools, the confidence, and the credibility to take the leap.”

Tangible success and a dream that shines

In less than a year, Aléa Café exceeded its financial goals. The business became a drop-off point for FDMT sensory products, offers a breastfeeding and quiet room, collaborates with organizations that promote inclusion, hires individuals living with disabilities, and participates in composting and anti-waste initiatives. The café has also become a must-visit tourist stop in the region.

But beyond the numbers, it’s Catherine’s dream that has come to life: to offer a space where families can gather, recharge, and feel truly welcome. She embodies the mission of the Lise Watier Foundation, to empower women to reclaim their independence, build their future, and inspire their community.

Today, Catherine is thriving, surrounded by her supportive family, and giving back to her community with generosity and commitment.
